Why does life strive to live?
Primal earth conditions became suited for creating organic material spontaneously.
In the system of physics and chemistry as it existed, there became stable structures, and unstable ones, but at one point a replicator arose in this system, and grew to dominate. These became cellular organisms that, at first glance, seemed to be attempting to "survive", but have really were just been the most efficient replicator from a series of ancestors.
Then  a tipping point' or critical mass of sorts was reached where the primitive self replicators begin to survive. And through the process somewhere, consciousness sprang up as a more successful method to continue replicating and surviving. And upon becoming more complex organisms emotions and thought became the tools for survival. These complex feelings mixed with millions of years of instinct drive humans to question death. Then we try to answer the fundamental question "Who am I?" by engaging in the world, by growing, learning, through experiencing the world in some way or another. We have a readiness' for death as we project forward attempting to answer this question.

“At the fundamental level everything is energy, mass is just condensed energy, and we know from quantum physics all energy in the universe and in existence is interconnected. Everything influences everything else at the quantum level. This energy is God stuff. It is consciousness. Energy can also never be created or destroyed only transformed from one form into another. So in essence the energy has always been there forever and ever and will always be there forever and ever; it is infinite, it is God.  The universe behaves like ONE gigantic organism. With every part, equally as important as every other part. No Thing in the universe likewise could possibly be more superior fundamentally than any other thing. The whole being is greater than the sum of its parts. Ultimately everything in the universe is connected and influences everything else. It is impossible to differentiate one part of the whole from another part at the fundamental level because ultimately it is all made of the same stuff and acts and behaves like ONE. This encompasses All That Is.
So what’s the point you ask? The point and purpose of the universe is so that God could experience Itself and come to know Itself through creating within Itself.”

God existed before time, before the universe, before everything! God had no body and no shape, it hasn’t been created yet. God was just floating in space. He was pure consciousness without form or shape, it’s as if he was nothing. He had no external reference points, and no internal reference points either for that matter. God had no idea who he was and what he was even capable of.
Now imagine yourself as God, and nothing exists outside of you, as you are everything. You are pure energy, completely formless and unlimited. You are infinite. Something very difficult to comprehend. Now, you wish to learn about yourself, and who you are and what you can do. So you begin to create, but since you are everything and are infinite you can’t create outside of yourself you must create within yourself. It is impossible for something to exist outside of infinity. So you begin to create dimensions like up and a down, and left and right, you begin to create little objects within your self. These objects are not separate from you, they are you, they are within you.
Now you have established internal reference points and objects and are learning about yourself, and what you are capable of. Yet you are not finished. You begin to create little entities within yourself and give them consciousness, so they can look up at you and say: “Ah that’s God, this is me, and this is what we can do.” The singularity has become a plurality but at the fundamental level it is still a singularity.  Continued below

Thus the illusion of separation is born. Ultimately there is no separation, but the illusion of separation at the superficial level serves a purpose. Without the illusion of separation without reference points you could not create, you could not experience! You would not know up from down, you would not know there, as oppose to here. The relative framework is setup perfectly to give rise to experience. Without it, it would be as if nothing existed. You could not compare yourself to anything and therefore you would not even know, you existed. Variety and diversity are extremely important because they help to differentiate one part of the whole from another. Time and space are also important so we can locate things relative to something else. In order for there to be even such a thing as ‘pleasure’ its polar opposite ‘pain’ must also exist and be experiential. Something can only exist with reference to its polar opposite. Everything in the universe appears in dualities. These are a fundamental need for existence and experience’s of the given nature.

What is the meaning of all this? Meaning is something that exists only temporarily in time. You can do something that will be meaningful to you today, but in a million years what does it mean?? Will anyone care, will you care? One thing is certain about the universe and that is change. NOTHING stays the same, and this gives rise to diversity. The universe even at the most basic energetic level is teeming with motion. There is no stasis and ultimately therefore you can never attach meaning to any one thing eternally. To attach meaning to any moment in time eternally you would have to freeze the entire universe and all of existence. You would have to stop life! And then it would be as if nothing existed.
Now there is no meaning yet there is purpose and the purpose of All That Is, is to experience and create. It’s a self discovery process on all levels of existence. You have been given free-will to create and experience life(God) in what ever way you choose. People often get caught up in a search for the meaning of life and try to artificially impose some sort of eternal meaning on something. It always fails. The point is to create and experience and the process of evolution allows you to learn more and more, and to create and experience with more variety and diversity. This is the true wonder of life. The Power of Color IN Birds

Originally The Color of Sex.
Male house finches (Carpodacus mexicanus) have carotenoid-based ornamental plumage coloration. In previous research it was shown that for a single population of house finches in a single year, males that paired were on average redder in plumage coloration than males that did not pair, and males with redder plumage tended to nest earlier than males with less red plumage.
One of the most widespread ornamental traits among birds is carotenoid-based red, orange, and yellow plumage coloration. Carotenoid pigments cannot be synthesized de novo by birds or by any vertebrates; they must be ingested. Because carotenoid pigments must be derived from food, expression of carotenoid pigmentation is dependent on access to sufficient amounts of foods that provide the right type of carotenoid pigments. The physiological condition of a bird at the time of molt, independent of parasitic infection, has also been invoked as a factor in the efficiency with which ingested carotenoids might be used to pigment feathers.
Models of sexual selection predict that condition-dependent ornamental traits such as carotenoid-based plumage coloration should be of particular interest to females when they choose a mate.
In both laboratory and field experiments, female house finches have been shown to prefer mates with redder and more intensely pigmented plumage.
One result of female preference for redder males is that the mean redness of paired male house finches is greater than the mean redness of unpaired males, among male house finches that pair, redder males tend to initiate nesting earlier (i.e., their mates lay eggs earlier) than less red males.

Rybird deductive corollary, Good food and hygiene offers better choices of a mate, thus better sex. We already knew that, but they had to prove it.

Life does not begin, nor does it end.

"Life continues just like a forest that loses a tree, the spirit and life of the forest is there."

Life does not begin, nor does it end. Life just is. It continues just like a forest that loses a tree, the spirit and life of the forest is there. Just like a lawn is a single organism of grass all interconnected, the universe itself is alive and one. The universe is one and many lives, it is a compound life and as such has a compound soul.
When a tree bears a fruit, which is seed that leaves the tree and enters the ground, then it sprouts into a new tree, the life force never ends and never begins. Humans and conception is like the tree and the fruit and human death is like the death of a tree in the forest, the tree has returned to the ground to decay to dirt, to enter a new seed as nutrients and become life again. At no point is the tree actually completely dead. It appears dead to the unknowing, yet is still part of the living universe and still alive.

Awareness, feelings, consciousness and even soul are all subjective and only relevant to the individual parts "beings" of the universe that they pertain to at that moment. That is to say, these virtues or attributes, energies or forces come and go and are from the Universe as a whole.  Life in the long run, the big picture, is not fixed to any particular set of atoms that make up an autonomous  living being.  Life is transformable yet constant within this sphere "universe" of one overall life force.

To carry this further,.... continued below..

Continued from above..... "as in saying another way, the steak someone eats will be transformed from the animal it once was into many other forms, some of it which will enter the body of the one consuming it and thus parts will become part of the person, or animal, consuming it and become as alive as part of that consuming creature.
To say that life begins at conception or birth is a difficult argument because the life is already existing before the events of sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is merely transformation of existing life. The process of death is the same, yet appears to be one of interruption, it is not. The Universe does not care about time, it cares about process. The process of life continues.

Redbird Tips

No, this is not a recipe for a bird salad., but for the attracting and maximizing the cardinal experience.
Redbirds as we call them in the south, are Northern Cardinals and are small birds that are easy to spot the male as he is bright red or orange. That is why we call them redbirds. They are hardy creature, lively and sing and are generally happy. Because people are attracting them to the backyard with feeders the population is no longer in decline. Reportedly it was in decline along with many birds due to the decline in gardening.

Picture of Juvenile Female Cardinal. Juvenile Female Cardinal.
Here are some tips for a good experience attracting and keeping redbirds.
A bird feeder is one of the easiest ways to attract many birds, and cardinals love sunflower seeds. Just the sunflower seeds along will keep them around. They do eat a variety of other seeds that are found in bird mixes and they eat flowers from trees like the Crepe Myrtle and the buds of the Tallow Tree. They also eat the red berries from the Holly bush. These red berries is what initially brought them around our home. They need caratonoids for the red color. Caratonoids is the pigment found in many plants they eat. The female redbird is not bright red like the male, but is a lovely brown and olive more earthy color theme that is very beautiful closer to them.
Redbirds love to eat off the ground, but I suggest a raised platform that is a couple feet from the ground to protect from insects, mold, cats and other hazards. This platform should be a surface that isn't very slick as they need a grip for their claws, so a very small wooden table would do as in an end table.
I use a metal frame with wood insert end table about 16” high that the top is about 10 by 12 inches and they love it. Just sprinkle about a half cup of seed twice a day for a few redbirds and watch them be happy.
Other birds as sparrows like this feeding arrangement too, but many birds such as the chickadee and finches prefer a hanging feeder. But if you are a redbird fan, you should be able to improve your experience by feeding them on a platform. They love to have other objects nearby such as lawn chairs, however there is a danger of their claws getting caught in the webbing and causing serious injury.

Picture of A Motley Minor. The juvenile male redbird has mottled feathers with many colors.

To maintain the feeding area, the feeder should be washed at least once a week to prevent mildew and mites. A mild soap and bleach and strong rinse will keep the mildew down and rid it from any mites. Also the sunflower shells fall to the ground and if not cleared away will pile up and eventually start composting. I suggest moving the table, or feeder before this as mites, bugs and mold will otherwise accumulate. Other than stocking the feeder, and keeping it and the surrounding area clean is keeping it away from cats and hawks. To determine the best spot, simply look around and avoid areas close to thick bushes cats hide and wide open areas that hawks can swoop down and safety is too far for the birds to get shelter.
Birds have wings and know how to use them, so this isn't necessary, nor is a bird bath, but I do suggest both if either, simply because then they have all their needs met in one area. Keep the bird bath clean and fresh, and out of hot sun as the sun can heat the water up to dangerous temperatures for the birds.

Clean it the same way as the feeder with soap and water, or mild bleach solution to kill any algea or mildew and thoroughly rinse.
Finally for the best experience with the vibrant redbird, is to get a camera , take some pics and share them with your friends. Not only will they enjoy it, but by looking at the pictures you can often see potential health problems as they arise. One might be an injury that can't be noticed while they are flying about, or damage to feathers from mites. This can go along ways to avoiding any serious problems.
The last suggestion for now is simply to be somewhat consistent in feeding them as they are the first and last birds to eat, eating early in the morning and late in the evening right before dark.

Understanding Animals

1/13/2017

Learning from the animals.originally posted 8/10/2014 Rybird

Many times I have seen or heard humans comparing humans to animals, often in the context of criminals or people that have gone against the acceptance of society. I see or hear phrases such as “They are no better than a animal.” or simply, “They are animals.” To better my understanding of animals, I have watched the local animals with an open and thoughtful mind. I have discovered that there is no inferiority of the animals to humans, nor is there any inferiority of humans to animals. Animals have social order with laws and consequences just like humans do, yet their motives seem to be more innocent. Perhaps we notice humans that have deviated outside the acceptable behavior that we believe should exist and cannot tell very often that animals also deviate in what many humans call a sin. Not to go into a religious commentary, but the definition of sin that I am using here is the one of doing something that is not approved of by the being committing said act. With that said, I think animals do not perpetrate ill motivated behavior unless there is an illness or disease at work.

Feral Tuxedo Cat. Visit Catarrific page about the urban cat
Feral Tuxedo Cat. Visit Catarrific page about the urban cat
Animals need to survive and nearly all of the behavior that I have observed is centered around this. Whether eating, sleeping, or procreating, animals behaviors are geared toward accommodating their basic needs. Going outside of my own observations for a moment, I know that giraffes will fight to the death over territory. It is not just the territory at risk, but what the territory affords and the alternate territory does not provide, which is the means for survival. It is not a fight for a better waterhole, but having a waterhole at all.
I have observed the birds form communities and families depending on the species and rely on others for increasing their chances at survival. Most animals are easily observed as social animals, although some orders such as insect have a variety of patterns and it can be hard to see any socialization. Ants are easy to see that they have a community, but dragonflies seem more solitary. This does not change their motives for living and how they behave as individuals. It is still motivated by the basic needs that insure survival.
It is now easy for me to understand that animals are not inferior in any way to humans, but some things such as religion and worship seem hard to identify in animals as their communication differs enough from ours to impede that understanding. However, turning that around, I can see that religion in humans is just as much about territory in this context as anything else. It is not about geographic territory, even though that is involved as it is about social territory. It is about grouping humans with similar values together through a belief system which is incorporated in the pertaining religion. Since I cannot communicate on that level yet with animals, I do not know what their internal or social belief system is. It very well could be a belief in a power greater than themselves, or that some believe and others do not like humans do, or that it is either completely different or non-existent. But I do understand animals have the same basic instincts and will to survive as humans do.
Squirrel fell, cute photo of squirrel layhing on the ground
Oops. Visit the Squirrel Page for more nature goodness
I can see that each species of animals has a unique way among themselves to communicate, yet each can understand some communications of other species. For example the cardinals sing and chirp complex high frequency sound phrases to each other, while the sparrow do the same. But the cardinals and the sparrows are not affected by each others communication as it is in a different language. Then there are universal languages such as yells, screams, and calls that alert or warn all species that could be affected by a threat.
Animals showing compassion is easy to see with dogs, since their compassion is often geared towards humans but others are very caring about their offspring or members of their immediate community. It is simply short sighted to compare a human criminal to an animal, or even groups of warring humans because animals are as innocent as the most socially healthy humans.
I will continue to watch and interact with the animals to hopefully learn more. I also find peace in knowing that animals are not lessor creatures than humans. I enjoy time with the animals, or as Mark Twain put it in Eve's diary, “I couldn't get back home; it was too far and turning cold; but I found some tigers and nestled in amongst them and was most adorably comfortable, and their breath was sweet and pleasant, because they live on strawberries. “
Now I must go outside so the birds can watch me.
